On June 30th 2008, the best swimmers in the United States will descend upon Omaha for the 2008 United States Olympic Swimming Trials. The trails will last from June 30th until July 7th and will be held at the Qwest Center, which will be transformed to hold two temporary 50 meter pools. The seating capacity of the Qwest Center will be reduced from 17,000 seats to around 14,000. In additon to the swimming trials, the convention center will host the USA Swimming Aqua Zone, the sponsor and fan experience area. Omaha beat out the two other finalists, St. Paul MN and San Antonio TX, to recieve the bid. Omaha was selected because of a renovated historic district, a revitalized downtown, a vigorous business environment, and a population that will support athletes, as they do at the College World Series and as they did at the 2006 NCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship.
