The Joslyn Art Museum has been the principal fine arts museum in the state of Nebraska since its opening on November 29, 1931. The esterior of the building is Georgia Pink marble, which lends to the buildings magnificance. It was given to the city of Omaha by Sarah Joslyn in rememberance of her late husband George Joslyn. It was orginally intended to be a concert hall surrounded by art galleries. Located in Omaha, it is the only museum in the state with a comprehensive permanent collection. Although it includes works from antiquity to the present day, its greatest strengths are in nineteenth and twentieth century American and European art. The Joslyn also has a very distinguished collection of art of the American West.

There are several special exhibitions presented each year which add excitement to the permanent collection and offer a broad range of art to everyone. Year-round musical performances are held in the Joslyn's 1,000 seat concert hall. Art classes for all ages and educational lectures by national and international scholars are instructed in the Joslyn's educational technology gallery as well as the lecture hall. The Joslyn also has a fountain court, library, cafe, and gift shop.

The Joslyn is also know for their event planning capabilities, including weddings and wedding receptions. To learn more about holding an event at the Joslyn, call the Director of Events at 402.661.3842.

The Joslyn Art Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm and Sunday 12pm-4pm. It is closed every Monday and all major holidays. The Joslyn Art Museum is located at 2200 Dodge Street. The telephone number is 402.342.3300

Every Thursday evening during the summer the Joslyn hosts Jazz on the Green.
