Beechwood is a community in East Omaha located east of the intersection of J.J. Pershing Drive and Read Street. Once its own townsite, the community was virtually destroyed by a 1947 flood that overwhelmed the banks of the Missouri River. In 1948 the Beechwood School District joined Omaha Public Schools,[1] and almost all traces of the Beechwood community were completely eliminated. Today the only remnants of the community are the trailer courts that were once escapes from busy Omaha urban life. However, the community is still noted on maps.[2]
